Radon tends to concentrate most inside of buildings. For this reason, anyone who owns, maintains or sells buildings, residential or otherwise, will need a radon test at some point or another.

When Should I Test for Radon?
If you have never tested your home or business for Radon, or don't recall if you ever have, it is important that you test. Even homes in low radon risk areas may have a radon problem. If you haven't tested in the last 2 years, the NJDEP recommends testing again. If you have made any significant changes to your home or building such as additions, upgrades, renovations or remodels, it is important to test again. Certain changes to your home may introduce radon gas leaks.
What if I already have a radon mitigation system? Do I have to test again?
If your home has a radon mitigation system, it is because your home has already tested for elevated radon. Homeowners and business owners with a radon mitigation system should test annually for elevated radon levels to ensure the effectiveness of their system. Changes to your home, including cracks in your foundation or to the local environment may result in increased radon levels. Additionally, all mechanical systems have the potential of failure over time. The presence of a mitigation system does not guarantee that the system is functioning as designed.
My neighbor has a radon problem. Should I be worried?
An elevated radon level in a neighbor's home, or a safe rating in a neighbor's home has no bearing on whether or not your home may have a problem. Some homes are more radon resistant than others. The presence of radon in the soil can vary greatly just from one house on the block to the next. If you have not tested your home in the last two years, you will want to test to be sure. If your neighbor passes a radon test, do not rely on those results for your own home.
