Radon Systems & Service
Like any mechanical system, Radon Mitigation Systems require ongoing maintenance to ensure proper function. The NJDEP recommends testing your home or business's radon levels at least once every two years, though you may notice the need for maintenance before this test. The team at Advanced Radon Services are happy to maintain and repair your existing Radon system, even if we did not initially install that system.
Did You Know? Half of Northern New Jersey is considered to be at high risk for radon gas. Radon is one of the leading causes of lung cancer.Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.The NJDEP recommends retesting for Radon Gas every 2 years.Radon levels tend to be highest during winter.
How to Tell if Your Radon Mitigation System is Working
U-Tube Manometer •
Radon systems come with a u-tube manometer. This is a U shaped tube containing liquid. If the liquid in the tube is equal on both sides, there is no pressure in the pipe, indicating that the system is not suctioning the air. If you notice even liquid levels on both sides of the manometer, please do not hesitate to call immediately.
Fan Noise/No Fan Noise •
If you notice that your radon ventilation fan has become excessively noisy, it is likely headed for a mechanical failure. Our team will happily eliminate the noise issue while ensuring your system continues to function properly. Alternately, if you are used to hearing your fan and that fan is no longer making noise, it may have failed. Check your U-tube manometer for signs that your system has lost pressure.
Radon Test Failure •
Even with a radon mitigation system in place, it is important to test for elevated radon levels once or twice a year. A number of factors can influence the effectiveness of your system; If any cracks have formed in your foundation, if any new openings have been formed such as during the installation of pipes etc, you may experience increased radon elevations.
Any time you rennovate, remodel, or add an addition or make major changes to your home, it is important to retest for radon as those factors may directly influence the levels of radon in your home. And finally, even if nothing changes, the radon content of your soil may change naturally as thorium, uranium and radium break down around your home.
